CAREER IN WORDS

I penned my first short story as a six year and wrote and illustrated pieces for Fanzines as a teenager. Post University, I joined the Financial Times where I worked on the Weekend section and Arts pages under the legendary JDF Jones, who founded the FT's weekend supplement. This was where I wrote my first piece and where I continued to contribute. From there I moved to Country Life magazine where I became Features Editor until I left in 2002 to go freelance, largely to be able to combine motherhood and work.
Since then my freelance work has included a column in The Evening Standard (on single parenting); a column on Eco interiors for the Daily Telegraph; and written features for several other titles including The Sunday Times, Daily Mail, The Field, School House, Somerset Life, WI Magazine (where I styled the front cover too). I've appeared on BBC Women's Hour, LBC and also BBC Breakfast television and been interviewed on several local radio stations across the UK, the most recent being during Covid on Radio Five Live where I spoke about the struggling hospitality industry. The Mirror also quoted me in early 2026 about B&Bs and the hospitality industry.
I love this image as the "chair" I'm sitting on (actually a sculpture by the artist Felicia Fletcher). The chair, reminds me of a comma which strikes me as a suitable emblem for a journalist. Pic by JOAKIM BLOCKSTROM
